Lights Out Trefonen is an events and information organisation responsible for the Wilfred Owen Centenary Festival of 2018 and the Wilfred Owen Festival that will take place in Oswestry in March 2025. The organisation also provides research and information on local history projects and during the WW1 Centenary Commemorations was responsible for various linked events and the creation of a database regarding those killed in WW1 from the local villages of Trefonen, Treflach and Nantmawr as well as the impact of the war on the local community of Oswestry.
The Wilfred Owen Festival 2025 is dedicated to honouring the life and works of the renowned poet and soldier in the town of his birth. It follows on from the 2018 worldwide Centenary Commemorations of the end of World War One and of his death just days before the cessation of hostilities in November 1918. The catalyst for this new festival was brought about by a magnanimous gesture from the maker of the Wilfred Owen Violin and other instruments to donate these to the people of Oswestry. Join us during the festival in March 2025 which will feature a diverse series of events including musical performances, drama productions, poetry recitals, informative talks and more as we explore and celebrate Owen’s legacy and honour his contributions to literature, our culture and his impact on our history.
