Brynkinalt, with its current house dating back to 1612, has been called a Hidden Gem of North Wales. Owned by The Trevor family who built the current house in 1612 and have links with the area stretching back over a thousand years, we are proud to be one of the few families in the UK who have such a long connection with an area and who still live in the historic property at the heart of the Estate. We are passionate about preserving this history while taking the Estate forward and ensuring its relevance in today’s world. The Trevors are direct descendants of a union which took place in 942 AD between Tudur Trevor, King of Gloucester, and Angharad, daughter of Howel Dda, King of Wales. The family includes several renowned characters including Sir John Trevor who was one of the few Welsh Speakers in the history of the House of Commons to date. The Duke of Wellington’s mother was also a Trevor and the Duke used to visit his grandmother Lady Dungannon here and accompanied her to nearby Llangollen to see the now infamous Ladies of Llangollen. While looking after the main house is, of course, central to our goals, our strap line of “Restoration, Conservation and Heritage” extends beyond this and the rest of our built environment. Consequently we also invest time and energy into restoring the wider landscape across the whole estate, from our soils beneath our fields to the trees and view lines in our historic parkland and the biodiversity that all these areas support. The house is available for hire for corporate and private events and celebrations. It is also open for tours for groups by appointment and for individuals on certain days of the year through Historic Houses Invitation to View Scheme. House Tours take approx. 1.5 hrs and finishing with tea and cake in our galleried Great Hall. Guests are then welcome to spend as long as they like exploring the gardens. One of the historic Gate Lodges, Bryngwilla – a Grade II* listed building, is now available as a self catering holiday let. A dramatic design with a stunning central arch and turrets, offers a unique layout with a spacious bedroom and luxurious bathroom to one side and a light airy kitchen and cosy sitting room on the other side. Holiday Guests also have access to the private gardens of the hall at set times during the week. For further information on the holiday let, visiting or hiring the hall, please email the estate office at office@brynkinalt.co.uk |
