Love Oswestry - Summer of art and culture
A celebration of Oswestry arts, culture and heritage - all summer long!
Four local creatives have been appointed artists in residence for the 2024 ART-efact project. These artists are working closely with the Oswestry Town Museum and Oswestry Town Archive collections over the summer months and will deliver a final body of work for an exhibition coinciding with Heritage Open Days 2024 from 6th September.
Project 1- Gilbert and Gordon Love Letters
Project 1 is built around the Gilbert and Gordon letters, which are reputed to be the largest collection of queer love letters from WWII. Artists Megan Hayward and Emily Clarke will work with Oswestry Pride and the local LGBTQ+ community in the town.
Project 2- Art Across the Borders
Project 2 will focus on the Heritage Open Day theme of Routes – Networks – Connections. Artists Robert Lawton and Martha Clark will explore the border town identity of Oswestry.
Throughout the residency (June- September 2024), the four artists will deliver several workshops in the local community, at organisations Qube and Designs in Mind, and with local schools.
What a summer of ART in Oswestry!
We have played with sticks, drawn on pavements, visited the pOSibility machine, fought our way through drama workshops and celebrated the art of Oswestry.
It’s now time to enjoy the work of our artists in residence and see the culmination of their work in a multimedia exhibition at the old Yoga Centre in Smithfield Road, Oswestry (next to Marks and Spencer). Visit the exhibition on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.
Do you want to know more about Oswestry? Hear about our history as you walk around the town with one of our volunteer guides.
Free tours until the end of September.
