Henstone Distillery – An Introduction
Henstone Distillery has been producing whisky in rural Shropshire since 2017, one of a small number of English distilleries making single cask whiskies. Extended fermentation and a unique distilling process produces a spirit full of flavour and character which then matures for 3 years in wooden casks. These are either ex-bourbon (Kentucky whisky), ex-Oloroso (sherry), ex-peated (Islay whisky), ex-Pedro Ximenez (sherry) or even former Red Wine casks. Every batch is therefore subtly different and effectively a limited edition, with each cask producing only circa 340 bottles. From the hand-written labels on each bottle, customers can find full details about the provenance of their batch from the Henstone website. All receive great reviews from connoisseurs and consumers alike and our flagship ex-bourbon won a Gold Medal in the Spirits Business Global World Whisky Masters.
As a founder member of the English Whisky Guild (EWG) we are also paving the way for English Whisky. We attend many festivals across the UK, have an ardent following on social media and growing interest from around the world.
Supplementing the whisky offerings we produce artisan gins, vodka, rums and apple brandy. Our gins have won numerous awards and just to highlight a couple – our London Dry Gin won Best in Britain and then went on to win Double Gold and Best of Class in San Francisco!! It has won many subsequent awards too. We have also won Distillery of the Year TWICE (initially in 2020 and then 2023) with The Gin Guide.
Henstone Distillery – The Future
The distillery is currently relocating to a more rural location on the border between England and Wales. The new site will allow us to quadruple our whisky production and, within a couple of years, we plan to have two distilleries on the one site, one in England and one in Wales, so we will be able to offer Welsh and well as English Single Cask whisky!
With very exciting times ahead the Henstone team is growing and about to embark on a national marketing campaign!!
