Away from it all – in Oswestry & Borderlands

Oswestry & Borderlands is a wonderful place to get away from it all. Whilst we have nationally recognized attractions like Pontcysllte Aqueduct, Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall and the British Ironwork Centre only a stone’s throw away we also have so many more hidden gems and beautiful quiet places in Oswestry and Borderlands to relax and get away from the daily grind. To rest, adventure, relax and breathe!

For this week’s “Five for Friday” five places that give a chance to get away from it all in our beautiful Oswestry countryside. We start with Colemere in the Shropshire lake-district. Not far from the well known Ellesmere, Colemere is a beautiful spot for walkers, nature lovers, families and more. With open grassland, the mere and woodlands to explore there is something for everyone and with a good car park access is easy too! Once back in the comfort of your own home why not order some local wine from Colemere Vinyard to be a memory of your visit to Oswestry and Borderlands.

Our second offering is “The Monty” the Montgomery Canal is a beautiful, calm place for a walk. The industrial heritage of locks and bridges intertwines with nature reserves to create a tranquil haven.

Number three – The Berwyns, this mountain range is great for hiking though one for those with great navigation skills as it is tricky! For those who want the view without the need for sturdy boots and compass the The Milltir Cerrig is a mountain pass on the B4391 with stunning views and plenty of small parking stops. Offering amazing Dark Skies it is a great drive out to see our stunning Borderland countryside! It definitely shows a contrast in landscape!

The forth is Ifton Meadows , in St Martins, once a coal mine now a stunning area for nature with diverse habitats and walks aplenty.

My fifth and final offering, at Chirk there is an aqueduct, viaduct and very dark tunnel that make an atmospheric amble! (Remember your torch!)

All this and so much more, so why not Visit Oswestry & Borderlands for a true escape to the country and get away from it
