- Profile
Watch the video of Nesscliffe Hill Nesscliffe, Kynaston’s Cave & The Cliffe is an area of mixed woodland and heathland about the size of 140 football pitches to explore. Within the site there is an iron age hill fort, a series of impressive quarries which supplied stone for some of Shropshire’s castles and churches, and a cave hewn into the sandstone, which is said to have been the hideout of the medieval outlaw Humphrey Kynaston & his horse, Beelzebub. (reputably, he was a bit of a benevolent Robin Hood character). There is also another large area to the North called the Cliffe. There are wonderful panoramic views over Shropshire towards Oswestry, Rodney’s Pillar and Melverley. It’s a great habitat for butterflies. Look out for the whortleberries.
Some paths will be accessible with an “all terrain” push chair. Not suitable for wheelchairs.
There are two car parks, One for the Hill and one for the Cliffe accessible from the road opposite the Three Pigeons in Nesscliffe Village. - Map
